Five Vision Brewery, as the name suggests, was founded by five people, and all five of them are liquor store owners in Toyohashi and Tahara.

Wait, liquor store owners started making beer themselves?
Hop Bro
Exactly. With younger generations drifting away from alcohol and big companies competing on low prices, local liquor retailers were getting tougher and tougher. The members of the local retail liquor association came together thinking, 'We can't just keep selling anymore, we have to make it ourselves,' and incorporated the business in 2022.

Local liquor stores starting brewing themselves to protect the industry... that's incredible drive!

And the brand name is "DAMONDE." It's brilliant, because it's a double meaning that plays on the Mikawa dialect "damonde" meaning "that's why" and the French "DA MONDE," meaning "of the world."
Mugi
Mikawa dialect and French! So stylish! What kind of beer is it?
Hop Bro
DAMONDE Natsumikan is a fruit beer made with summer mandarin oranges from Tahara and rice koji from domestically grown rice, with 4.0% ABV. Its bitterness is gentle, and it features the refreshing aroma of summer mandarin and the delicate umami of rice koji. It pours a beautiful blond color. They also make a series using local fruit, including Kyoho weizen, yuzu fruit ale, and strawberry weizen.

So they're all fruit-based! Strawberry weizen sounds absolutely delicious!

The label design was selected from submissions by students at Toyohashi University of Technology. They even involved the local university. You can buy it at local liquor stores and at Michi-no-Eki Toyohashi, so they really have a full local production and consumption cycle going.

Liquor stores + local fruit + student design... the whole Toyohashi community is involved. I want to pick some up at the roadside station and take it home!
