Shinjuku Beer Kobo is a brewpub on the basement 2nd floor of the Shinjuku Nomura Building in Nishi-Shinjuku, but the story behind the company that runs it, Beer Project, is also really interesting.
Mugi
A brewery in the basement of the Nomura Building? You mean inside an office building?
Hop Bro
Exactly, that is the key point. Founder Nonomura Natsuaki used to work for an advertising agency, but in 2010 he quit his job and opened the first Beer Kobo in Koenji with his wife. From there it expanded to Ogikubo, Nakano, Asakusa, and Soshigaya-Okura, and Shinjuku is the eighth location.

An ad man became a beer shop owner!? And he started it with his wife too, which reminds me of Sakazuki-san from earlier.
Hop Bro
That's right. And the concept of Beer Kobo is 'the neighborhood beer shop.' Each location has its own brewing equipment, and they serve beer brewed right there on the spot. So the beer at the Shinjuku location can only be drunk at the Shinjuku location, with freshness that's zero days from the brewery.
Mugi
Wow! Zero days from shipping is about as fresh as it gets.
Hop Bro
The Shinjuku location is a 4-minute walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Station, so it's perfectly placed for office workers to drop by after work. The interior has a cafe-like atmosphere, and you can drink while looking at the brewing tanks. Pilsner, pale ale, and IPA are always on the lineup, and you can also enjoy pairings with creative French cuisine.

Fresh craft beer and French food in the basement of the office district... that's the perfect reward after work!
Hop Bro
They even offer all-you-can-drink beer. All-you-can-drink craft beer is rare, right? Each shop has its own brewmaster, and every location has a different character, so it is fun to compare it with the Koenji or Nakano branches.
Mugi
All-you-can-drink craft beer!? That's way too good a deal... what a hidden gem in Shinjuku!
