What kind of brewery is Anchor Point?
Hop BroWouldn't you be surprised to hear there's a brewery right in the middle of Nagatacho? Anchor Point is the first shop in Chiyoda Ward to obtain a brewing license.
MugiWait, Nagatacho!? Craft beer in the political district?
Hop BroIt opened in 2016, and the concept is "when a ship drops anchor, people gather and the town grows." They turned an empty building into a lush terrace, with 75 seats inside and 64 on the terrace. On the terrace, they've placed an Airstream - an American vintage trailer - and serve house-roasted coffee from b.s.b. Coffee Roasters there too.
MugiWhat, that's way too stylish! So it's coffee by day and beer by night?
Hop BroExactly. And the beer side is interesting too. They have six varieties: pale ale, IPA, session IPA, weizen, amber ale, and dark ale, and every day they rotate three of them.
MugiSo you can drink different beers every time you go!
Hop BroAnd what's more, all four of the beers they entered in the Japan Great Beer Awards 2019 won gold. It's like hitting a home run in every at-bat.
MugiAll four won gold!? That's incredible, right?
Hop BroAs for brewing, they use extra malt to boost the sweetness and richness, designed to pair with steaks grilled over a wood fire. They add hops in four separate stages, and the beer brewed in the brewery at the back of the kitchen is then aged on-site in the restaurant. The live yeast keeps changing the flavor.
