Next up is Fifteen Brewery in Hayama, officially named "Jugo Beer Brewery." The owner, Shinji Akiyama, is pretty unusual too - he used to be an IT engineer and is also a photographer.
Mugi
An IT engineer turned beer brewer!? And a photographer too - he's a creative person.
Hop Bro
He was just so insanely into beer that he ended up on the brewing side. He got his low-malt beer production license in 2015 and opened on Christmas Day. The "15" in the brewery name comes from 2015.
Mugi
Opening on Christmas is so romantic! What kinds of beer do they brew?
Hop Bro
They have a series named after Hayama, like "Hayama Weizen," "Hayama Stout," and "Hayama Wit." They also brew IPAs and uniquely named beers like "Wheat Saison" and "Last-Ditch Saison."
Mugi
Last-Ditch Saison (laughs). I like the naming sense.

What's really impressive is that they also brew beers using fruit harvested in Hayama and along the Miura Peninsula, like summer oranges, raspberries, yuzu, and lemons. It feels like they're bottling up the local bounty in beer form.
Mugi
Citrus beer from the Miura Peninsula sounds amazing in summer!

The shop uses a standing-bar style, so you can drink freshly made beer right there on the spot. Now in its 10th year, it mainly sells beer by the measure, and if you bring your own container, they'll fill it to the top for you.
Mugi
Beer by the measure! Bringing my own bottle is eco-friendly, and it feels special too. Walking around Hayama and stopping in to buy beer sounds like a great way to spend a day off.
