Memuro Machinaka Oentai, an NPO made up of local merchants and farmers in Memuro Town, Hokkaido, will release its craft beer, ALLE MEMURO, on August 22. The project began in June 2021 and finally came together after six years of development. Brewery manager Hiroaki Takahashi said he hopes it will become a new local specialty.

Memuro Beer Brewery is a small brewery operated in a renovated former electronics shop near JR Memuro Station. Its roots in Memuro Town, a major agricultural area in Hokkaido, are part of what gives the beer its local character.

The name ALLE MEMURO combines ALL, ALE, and YELL, then adds MEMURO to highlight the brewery’s location. The beer is made with malt and hops, plus carrageenan as a secondary ingredient. It has 5% ABV, comes in 330 ml bottles, and is priced at 750 yen. The brewery describes it as having soft carbonation and a gentle drinking profile.

Production also uses the Ishiwari-style method developed by Iwami Beer, which ferments beer in a freezer and plastic bag setup. The brewery aims to produce 6,000 liters, or about 18,000 bottles, per year. Sales will be limited to the brewery on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00, with availability also at a local 7-Eleven store and select restaurants in town. It is a locally driven beer worth watching as a new Memuro staple.
