MANGOSTEEN / MANGOSTEEN in Daizawa, Setagaya Ward, is a kakuuchi-style liquor shop that combines a bottle shop, bar, deli, lounge, and general goods store. In addition to MANGOSTE Brewing craft beer, the shop also offers more than 50 kinds of mezcal and over 100 natural wines, making it an easy place to stop by whether you're there for the beer or approaching it like a bar.

What was announced on Instagram this time was SUN SONG, introduced via a repost from MANGOSTEEN HOKUTO. This pale ale is a collaboration with AMBESSA&CO, and its specs are ABV 4.5% / IBU 14. The caption explains it as a new batch with the alcohol level lowered to emphasize drinkability, making it clear that this is a beer aimed in a "drinkable from daytime" direction.

The flavor center is green pepper and summer mandarin orange. The chili recipe is also left unchanged, combining Korean green chili peppers, Mexican chile ancho, and Kyushu-grown jalapeños, then adding pesticide-free summer mandarin oranges delivered from AMBESSA&CO in Chiba. Rather than focusing only on heat, the beer layers citrus aroma with a light body, making it likely to pair well with food.

The appeal of MANGOSTEEN / MANGOSTEEN is that these distinctive guest beers can be enjoyed with the easygoing feel of the shop's kakuuchi style. Of course, it's worth following the changes in aroma on their own, but lining SUN SONG up with the shop's snacks and curated drinks makes its character even easier to see. It is the kind of beer to keep in mind, whether as a first drink in Daizawa or as a mid-flight tasting choice.
