A new release at the cellar shop
Shonan Beer introduced its new FRESH HOP IPA at Chikashitsu, the brewery’s cellar shop on the Kumazawa Brewing grounds in Kanagawa’s Chigasaki area. The underground shop is a calm place to browse the brewery’s beers and other drinks at an unhurried pace.
The beer is listed as a fresh-hop ale with 4.5% ABV. It uses malt and hops, featuring Mosaic, Citra, and El Dorado pellet hops from the U.S., along with Cascade and Columbus whole hops grown in Yosano, Kyoto.
Its defining point is the use of freshly harvested green hops picked that very day. The U.S. hops are added during the boil, while the Yosano whole hops are steeped in the dry-hop tank. The result is a beer with a grassy, vivid hop character and a relatively easy-drinking profile.
Shonan Beer is known for unfiltered, non-heat-treated beers that keep a lively, fresh quality. This release fits that identity well, pairing the brewery’s clean freshness with the bright, green aroma of freshly picked hops. For beer fans visiting Chigasaki, Chikashitsu is also a good place to compare this beer with other Shonan Beer releases.
