New batch of "virage" in Minami Aizu Tajima

A new batch of virage has been released from the brewpub "Minami Aizu Mountain Brewing / Taproom BeerFridge Beer Fridge" in Aizutajima, Minamiaizu Town, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. This beer is a Belgian Pale Ale with an ABV of 6.0%. It is being introduced as a beer finished with secondary fermentation in the package.

Aroma and flavor

virage uses three hop varieties from Germany and Slovenia from the mash through dry hopping. It has the restrained elegance typical of noble hops, while its aromatic core is herbal, with notes reminiscent of pear and apple syrup. On the palate, citrus and floral impressions spread out, layered with a spiciness that could be attributed either to the yeast or the hops.

The malt does not take center stage, and the overall impression is firmly dry. It finishes with a pleasant hop bitterness, resulting in a Belgian Pale Ale that stands out most when paired with food rather than through flashy fruitiness. The name "virage," which means a ski turn in French, also evokes that lightness and clean turning motion.

The enjoyment of drinking it at the taproom

It is being offered in 15.5L, 10.2L, and 350ml formats, and the serving conditions at Taproom BeerFridge are also listed. For those who want to calmly enjoy locally brewed beer in Aizutajima, this is an appealing beer to enjoy in the everyday atmosphere of a brewpub. While it has a bright aromatic presence, it finishes dry, so it should pair well not only with fried foods and meat dishes but also with salty snacks.
