Garapago Racing, a brewery in Kaiseicho, Kanagawa, introduced a seasonal saison featuring Nanko plums in an Instagram post marked simply with the word "summer." The brewery described the 2026 batch in detail.
For this release, the team turned 30 kg of fragrant Nanko plums from Takizawa into juice together with 30 kg of ice sugar. They say they made 30 kg worth of plum juice in the tank, then blended it into a saison so the plum character would stay gentle rather than dominate the beer. The result is meant to sit on top of the brewery's soft wheat character with a subtle Nanko plum aroma.
The post also looks back on previous versions of the plum saison. In earlier years, the beer carried a peach-like note, but some plum astringency became more noticeable as time passed. For 2026, the brewery reworked the recipe by using plum juice instead of whole plums, aiming for better balance. It also said there were only 120 liters left and that the beer would likely sell out in about three weeks.
Garapago Racing's official site says the brewery uses deep groundwater drawn from 80 meters underground, and makes unpasteurized, unfiltered beer with living yeast. Its core lineup includes Saison, Amber Ale, Belgian Ale, and Porter. This plum saison fits naturally into that seasonal approach, tying local brewing to summer ingredients.
