Beer pub MOKICHI KAMAKURA in Hase, Kamakura has announced a limited beer release from Shonan Beer: KAMAKURA Herb Saison. Service starts on July 23. As a directly operated Kumazawa Shuzo venue, the beer reflects both the brewery’s identity and the restaurant’s own setting.
The beer is brewed with herbs harvested from the MOKICHI Kamakura herb garden. The post notes 16 different herbs, including orange mint, sansho pepper, rosemary, and lemongrass. It is the third brew in the series this year, expanding from 9 herbs in the first batch and 11 in the second.
On the technical side, it is a herb spice beer at 5.0% ABV, hopped with Mosaic and Motueka. The aroma is described as herbal with layered saison yeast character, while the flavor combines mint-like freshness, spicy phenolics, and Japanese citrus notes reminiscent of buntan and hassaku. The finish is dry and clean.
The brewery also suggests it pairs well with appetizers and fish dishes, making it a natural fit for a meal-focused beer pub. For drinkers visiting Kamakura, it is a limited saison that connects the restaurant’s kitchen, garden, and local identity in one glass.
