Tiels Brewing (Shizuoka) has started a new weekend-only serving experience called "Beer Spike" at its taproom, "TIELS TEA & TAPS."

Beer Spike is a method in which a heated iron sphere is dipped into beer, caramelizing the sugars in the liquid and changing the aroma and flavor profile. Because it also raises the temperature, the same beer can show a different character from its usual form. The announcement also highlights its creamy foam as a feature.

It is not offered all the time, but only when staff trained to handle it are on site. It is also not something that can be done with every beer; the shop limits the selection to specific styles based on compatibility. The current lineup includes the following three:

- Brown Ale
- Märzen Lager
- Imperial Stout

As a Mishima brewery, Tiels has promoted a taproom experience that includes not only beer but also food and tea. This introduction of Beer Spike is also noteworthy as an effort to propose a new way of drinking itself. For those who especially enjoy malty beers, it should be an experimental and interesting glass, letting them compare changes in toastiness and mouthfeel.

If you plan to visit on the weekend, checking the day's serving availability and the eligible beers at the shop should make things smoother. It is news that adds one more layer of depth to your usual pint.
