TIELS Brewing, a small brewery based in Mishima, Shizuoka, has announced on social media that its Märzen Lager season has arrived once again.

Märzen is a lager style widely associated with autumn. Compared with lighter lagers, it is known for a more pronounced malt character, with gentle toasted notes and a rounded depth that makes it well suited to slow, relaxed drinking. It offers a natural transition from the crisp beers of summer to fuller, malt-driven flavors.

TIELS’ official website lists Märzen Lager among the beers brewed at the brewery, and it is currently included in the taproom’s lineup. The beer is also one of the styles selected for TIELS’ “beer spike” service, in which a heated iron ball is immersed in the beer. The technique is recommended for darker or more malt-forward beers, alongside the brewery’s Brown Ale and Imperial Stout.

TIELS Brewing operates a compact 250-liter brewing system and makes beers that incorporate fruits and agricultural products from the Izu area. Its adjoining pub, TIELS TEA & TAPS, sits beside the Genbei River and offers more than ten original beers, as well as a three-beer tasting set. Food such as fish and chips is also available to pair with the beer.

For drinkers looking to welcome the autumn season, the Märzen Lager is a natural choice. Availability and opening hours may change, so visitors should check the brewery’s official website before visiting the taproom.
