Tokyo's Adachi Ward-based Sakazuki Brewing brewed a beer to celebrate the first anniversary of Asakusa agave specialty shop "Katoenge Tokyo." The beer is called 'Bye Bye Ovatifolia'. In a post, the brewery noted that the shop's long-beloved "sacred tree," an agave ovatifolia, had finished flowering, and introduced the beer as something born from taking that event to heart.
The brew uses agave syrup. The style is American pale ale, and while keeping a light, easy-drinking profile at its core, oats were used to create a soft haze and bring in aromas reminiscent of tropical citrus and stone fruit, according to the post. The hop aroma also adds herbal and woody notes, and the finish is designed to come across dry.
On its April 16 post, Sakazuki Brewing also revealed that day's tap lineup. Starting with the newly added 'Hatsukaze', it lined up 17 beers ranging from staples to distinctive one-offs, while also sharing updates on the beers moving through the taps in the shop. After Katoenge Tokyo's event ends, the anniversary beer is also slated to be served at Sakazuki Brewing, making this not just a brew release but also a project that connects with local shops.
