Derailleur Brew Works releases "2470 Beer Boy #004" finished with tea leaves
Derailleur Brew Works of Osaka's Nishinari has unveiled #004, the latest entry in its "2470 Beer Boy" series. It is a Dunkles Weissbier brewed with two kinds of tea leaves and introduced as a beer inspired by Taiwan's tea culture.
Based in Nishinari Ward, Osaka, Derailleur Brew Works is known as a brewery that captures the atmosphere and stories of the neighborhood in its beer. On its official site, it emphasizes its commitment to AREA2470 = Nishinari, presenting an approach that conveys not only flavor but also the background behind it.
What has now arrived is the fourth release in the series, "2470 Beer Boy #004." According to the online store description, it was brewed by EBIR, the "silent eccentric brewmaster." Its style is Dunkles Weissbier, designed with inspiration from Taiwan's tea culture.
The liquid pours dark brown. A soft, smooth texture is layered with a sweet roasted aroma reminiscent of caramel, while the fragrance is built further with Earl Grey and roasted rice tea leaves. Yeast-derived ester notes resembling cloves also harmonize, creating a beer whose character changes as the temperature shifts. It is listed as 330 ml with 6.0% ABV.
Derailleur Brew Works' strength lies not simply in being unconventional, but in constructing the impression of each beer through ingredient pairings and the passage of maturation time. This tea-leaf-infused release is another new addition worth noting, one that combines the brewery's signature storytelling with real drinking depth.
