Hongo Kikuzaka-machi Kamosu, a brewery and beer stand in Hongo, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, has shared an introduction to its venue on Instagram.

The brewery is located within walking distance of Hongo-sanchome Station and close to the University of Tokyo’s Red Gate. Its brewery-equipped beer stand offers an easy stop during a walk through the historic Hongo and Kikuzaka neighborhoods.

Beer inspired by Hongo

Kamosu has developed beers across several styles, including bitter ale, pale ale, IPA, Belgian white, and stout. The names of its beers draw on places and stories connected to Hongo, giving each pint a sense of place beyond its ingredients and brewing style.

The brewery’s owner and brewer was influenced by the small breweries he encountered in Germany, where neighborhood breweries can function much like local bakeries or cafés. That experience helped shape Kamosu’s aim of becoming a familiar part of the community—a place where people can casually enjoy a beer close to home.

Bring food from the neighborhood

Guests can enjoy beer poured from the brewery’s taps and are also welcome to bring in prepared foods and bread purchased from nearby shops. This makes it possible to combine a local food walk with freshly brewed beer in a relaxed setting.

The counter-focused space is also suitable for solo visits. Beer selections, opening days, and hours may change, so visitors should check the brewery’s official Instagram before heading out. For anyone exploring Hongo, Kamosu offers a chance to taste the neighborhood through both its beer and its stories.
