Event Overview

At SIBLINGS, a beer pub in Kikuna, Yokohama, its sister venue &SIBLINGS is set to host a Hansharo Beer tap takeover on Saturday, July 18. According to the post, brewery head Yamada is expected to arrive around 4:00 p.m., and two rock-paper-scissors contests are planned at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Why the Narayama Reverberatory Furnace Matters

The post was published as an introduction to the Narayama Reverberatory Furnace ahead of the event. Built in the late Edo period, around 170 years ago, the furnace was used to smelt iron for cannon production. It is the only surviving practical reverberatory furnace in Japan and was registered in 2015 as part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution.

The term “reverberatory furnace” refers to the way heat from the flame is reflected from the roof and concentrated onto the iron. The post also explains why Narayama was chosen: fuel was easier to secure, water was plentiful, the ground was stable, and the site was far enough inland to reduce the risk of attack.

Beer Mentioned in the Post

The only beer name explicitly mentioned in the caption is Hansharo Beer’s “Tarozaemon.” The beer is named after Egawa Tarozaemon, also known as Egawa Hidetatsu. That historical connection gives the tap takeover extra context for drinkers who enjoy a story with their pint.
