Nagahama Roman Beer Brewery (Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture) announced on Instagram that it will hold “BIWA GARDEN” on May 17. This is a repeat of the event’s debut last year, which drew strong interest, and it looks set to become a spring event that beer fans won’t want to miss.

When BIWA GARDEN was held in 2025, it took place under the title “Chef’s Kitchen & Craft Beer Fes,” offering a chance to enjoy craft beer from Shiga Prefecture alongside Nagahama restaurants. In addition to Nagahama Roman Beer, the venue featured breweries from within the prefecture as well as chefs and bartenders from Nagahama, creating a lineup where beer, cocktails, and food could all be enjoyed at once. Another highlight was the chance to try dishes made with limited recipes and one-day-only pairings.

Founded in 1996, Nagahama Roman Beer is a craft brewery that works in both brewing and distilling. It continues to make alcohol rooted in the land of Nagahama, on the shores of Lake Biwa. What makes this event interesting is that, beyond the appeal of the beer itself, visitors can also experience local food culture through interactions with regional chefs and bars.

This year’s BIWA GARDEN will also be watched closely for how it showcases combinations unique to Nagahama. Centered on Nagahama Roman Beer’s standard and limited-release beers, it is an event where guests can enjoy how the drinks pair with food, and we will be waiting for further updates.
