The Mashiko, Tochigi brewery Mingel has unveiled a new beer, Summertime Clothes, on Instagram. In the post, it is introduced as “Mingel's Beer #23”; the style is listed as “Mingel's Wit”, and the ABV is 5%.

According to the brewery, this beer is a “simple wit beer.” Built on the gentle aroma of wit yeast that is not overpowering, it is lightly accented with yuzu juice and spices, softening the acidity and spiciness into a smooth profile. The finished impression is “refreshing and light.” It is positioned as a Mingel-style white beer for quenching your thirst on hot days.

The name has an interesting backstory as well. The post reveals that the beer's name was taken from “Summertime Clothes,” a song by the 2000s US alternative band Animal Collective. The way Mingel weaves a musical reference into the naming, not just the beer itself, shows the brewery's playful spirit.

Mingel is known as a brewery rooted in the local culture of Mashiko, making both beer and bread. This new release, Summertime Clothes, is not a beer that aims to impress through intensity; instead, it draws drinkers in with the easygoing character of a wit beer and the nuance of yuzu. It seems well suited to the season moving toward summer, whether paired with food or enjoyed slowly on its own.
