Yokohama Bay Brewing Kannai Features Hoppu-Kotan’s Kagari-bi and MALTINA
Yokohama Bay Brewing Kannai has highlighted two craft beers: Hoppu-Kotan Brewing’s Kagari-bi and Songbird Beer’s MALTINA. The lineup pairs a dry, malt-driven Düsseldorf Alt with a rich Belgian Brown Ale made with Okinawan brown sugar.
Two distinctive beers on the lineup
Yokohama Bay Brewing Kannai has introduced two beers for craft beer fans: Kagari-bi from Hoppu-Kotan Brewing and MALTINA from Songbird Beer. Their contrasting profiles make them a compelling pair for a tasting session at the Kannai beer pub.
Kagari-bi is a 5.0% Düsseldorf Alt. This traditional style from Düsseldorf is known for malt depth, noble hop aroma, firm bitterness, and a dry finish. The beer uses pilsner malt as its base, with caramel Munich and a small amount of melanoidin malt. Roasted malt is used for color without allowing roast character to dominate. The result is a balanced altbier with restrained sweetness and a crisp, dry finish.
MALTINA is a 7.0% Belgian Brown Ale from Songbird Beer. Several malts create rich caramel-like sweetness and roasted notes, while this year’s recipe also uses brown sugar from Tarama Island in Okinawa. It is a fuller, slower-sipping beer for drinkers who enjoy malt-forward flavors.

A natural tasting order would be to start with the dry and bitter Kagari-bi, then move to MALTINA for its richer sweetness and aroma. Tap availability may change, so guests should confirm the latest lineup before visiting.
