Odawara Garage Brewing introduced its new in-house beer, "Odawara SAISON," timed to coincide with its third anniversary in May. ABV is 7%. With the subtitle "Amanatsu farm house ale," it has been crafted as a beer centered on local agricultural products.

Beer Characteristics


For this batch, the brewery used amanatsu from Odawara, which fell from the trees during the heaviest snowfall in several years, along with hassaku peel and a small amount of lemon peel. By making use of both peel and juice, it gives the citrus character greater depth. The post also mentions that growers and regular customers helped with everything from hand-squeezing the fruit to peeling the rind, making the beer's local roots especially visible.

The intended flavor profile is dry and crisp, yet with enough body to feel substantial. The yeast was reportedly switched back to the one previously used to better match the citrus character, creating a design that aims for a balance of complexity and lightness. By the time you finish the glass, it seems to leave behind layers of aroma and a subtle sense of alcohol.
