From the Herb Garden to a Glass

MOKICHI KAMAKURA is a beer pub housed in a brick building renovated from the former Kanagawa Prefectural Kamakura Air-Pressure Pump Station. In contrast to its imposing, classical exterior, the interior is modern and open, and it serves brewery cuisine that makes use of herbs and fermented ingredients from the brewery. Located in Hase, Kamakura, it has an atmosphere that makes you want to stop by in the middle of a stroll.

This time, the venue is introducing its "Herb Garden Project," which uses herbs grown in the on-site herb garden. In preparation for Shonan Beer’s "Kamakura Herb Saison," which is released every summer, the project explains the process: planting in March, harvesting in June, and then brewing the beer from there. This event invites participants to take part in the herb harvest that begins that process.

The first half is a workshop and the second half is a meal, making this a fun event where participants can learn about the background that connects herbs and beer while experiencing it firsthand. Because it is led by Mr. Tsutsui, the brewmaster of Shonan Beer, it is not just a simple harvesting event; another highlight is the chance to hear about the brewing process and the way flavor is built. For beer lovers who already know the finished product, it is the kind of event that makes you curious about what kind of beer the harvested herbs will become.

It is a hands-on event that lets you experience Kamakura's herb garden and restaurant as one.
