Shiraoi TOGB Pre-Releases Once-a-Year Brew "Röt Raspberry 2025" Cans on March 7
The Old Grey Brewery (TOGB) in Shiraoi, Hokkaido, has released the canned version of its once-a-year fruit beer, "Röt Raspberry 2025." In addition to adopting art-design cans, a new project to use raspberry pomace from production as a local ingredient has also fully launched, expanding beer-centered efforts toward regional circulation.
Annual Raspberry Beer Arrives in 2026-Edition Cans
The Old Grey Brewery began a pre-release of the canned product for its popular seasonal fruit beer, "Röt Raspberry" (brewed in 2025), starting Saturday, March 7, 2026. The style is Fruit Session Lager, and the ABV is 3%. It is designed to be easy to drink, with raspberry-derived tartness and aroma brought to the forefront, along with gentle carbonation from natural effervescence.
On the ingredients side, organic raspberries from Tokiiro Berry Farm in Tokachi are used. Among Japanese-grown raspberries, which have limited domestic distribution, this is a particularly rare ingredient, and the beer is brewed to match the condition of the fruit each year.
Art Cans, Local Giving, and a Move Toward Byproduct Use
This can is an art-design can using artwork by Kyoto-based artist Sumire Funakoshi, "Shiraoi, a Landscape of Light - Summer in the Tobiu Forest -" (2024). 30 yen per can will be allocated to cultural and artistic activities, environmental initiatives, and other efforts in Shiraoi Town.
Also worth noting is the "TOGB Raspberry Project." Rather than discarding the raspberry pomace produced during brewing, it is being turned into bread, pizza, gelato, vinegar, and more. By working with businesses in Shiraoi Town and the Iburi region, the brewery is advancing an effort to circulate beer-brewing byproducts as "new local ingredients."
As a brewery bearing the name Shiraoi, TOGB champions brewing that makes use of local resources and community building. This new product seems to be one example not merely of a limited release, but of how craft beer can become a point of connection between local culture and industry.
