A "Small Comeback" in Sapporo

Maltheads ~ Malt Heads, a specialty shop for beer and malt whisky long known in the Shiseikan area on the edge of Sapporo's Tanukikoji, will open a booth at the "Japan Sake All-Star Kanshasai" on May 15 and 16. In its post, the shop says this will be its first activity under the "Maltheads" name in about three and a half months, since closing at the end of January.

The venue is DO-BOX EAST inside the Hokkaido Shimbun building. The post also notes, "This is not the Tongu venue," making clear that the booth will be at an event space in central Sapporo. Although it is a sake event, the lineup also includes craft beer and craft gin from Hokkaido, making it especially appealing to beer fans as well.

What will be available on the day are the beer cocktail "Dobu Beer," which combines doburoku and beer, Sapporo Kaitakushi Beer, and Sapporo Classic. True to Maltheads, the selection is not just unusual; it also conveys the depth of Hokkaido's beer culture. In particular, Sapporo Classic is a signature standard that represents Hokkaido, and it has its own appeal when enjoyed again in the atmosphere of an event.

Maltheads is a beer pub that has introduced beer styles from around the world, mainly through bottles and cans, and has long supported Sapporo's beer scene. This booth appearance can be seen as a chance to experience that stance in a form separate from the shop's regular operations. Even after closing, it continues to serve a glass with a malt shop's perspective, as if the shop's history itself remains intact.

Beers to Be Served

- Dobu Beer
- Sapporo Kaitakushi Beer
- Sapporo Classic

For Sapporo beer fans, even deciding which glass to start with at the venue is likely to be part of the fun.
