At Beer Cafe Gambrinus in Kokubunji, a barrel-aged beer from Hiroshima has been added to the tap list. In an Instagram post, "Rinki Sakurahen ~Barrel Aged Wheat Wine~" is introduced, and the image also shows the label "Running low!".
This beer is an 8.0% ABV wheat wine from HIROSHIMA NEIGHBORLY BREWING. It is one of the labels in the HIROSHIMA BARREL RELAY PROJECT, a collaboration among craft alcohol makers in Hiroshima, and is released as a barrel-aged beer layered with barrel-derived nuances. In separately released information, the aging process is introduced as using barrels from SAKURAO BREWERY & DISTILLERY and wine barrels from VINOBLE VINEYARD, making this a beer characterized not only by the depth of malt, but also by barrel-derived aroma and a complex layered profile.
Gambrinus is a craft beer cafe located one minute on foot from the south exit of Kokubunji Station. Its official site highlights 14 craft beer taps, and presents it as a place to enjoy beer alongside handmade dishes prepared by a Japanese cuisine chef. Even though it is on the 6th floor right next to the station, the shop's appeal is that you can relax and enjoy draft beer without any pretension. From clearly defined styles to glasses that pair well with food, the lineup is broad enough to handle a wide range of tastes.
This "Rinki Sakurahen" is a glass with the depth that only barrel aging can bring, plus the substantial feel of an 8.0% beer. Since only a little remains, anyone interested should check it out soon. It is a chance to try a limited barrel-aged beer born from a Hiroshima project in Kokubunji.
