Two Mein Schloss classics receive gold medals

Mein Schloss, a brewery and beer restaurant in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, has announced that its Alt and Schwarz beers won gold medals at the International Beer Cup 2026.

The International Beer Cup is described by the brewery as the world’s third-oldest beer competition. Beers from Japan and overseas are judged, giving the awards an international scope. Gold medals are presented to beers that fully meet the standards of their respective categories and demonstrate a world-class balance of appearance, aroma and flavor.

Alt is one of Mein Schloss’s top-fermented beers, offering a malt-driven profile and a rich color. Schwarz, by contrast, is a bottom-fermented dark beer. Its roasted malt character is balanced by a clean, approachable finish. Tasting the two side by side provides a clear comparison of their different brewing styles and flavor profiles.

The restaurant also serves four house beers, including Weizen and Helles. Set inside a building inspired by a German castle, Mein Schloss recreates the atmosphere of a traditional German beer hall. Its beer lineup pairs naturally with German dishes such as sausages, Schweinshaxen and pretzels.

To celebrate the awards, the brewery is distributing a coupon for one free gold-medal beer to members of its official app. Visitors to Hamamatsu can experience the winning Alt and Schwarz fresh at the source, alongside a menu designed for beer drinking.
