TIELS Brewing in Mishima, Shizuoka, says this year’s plum saison has finished brewing. The plums came from Nyaa Farm in Shuzenji, Izu. According to the post, winter cold was severe and plum yields were low in many places, but the farm still secured enough fruit for TIELS to make the beer.

The brewery says the plums were carefully washed, destemmed, and used as brewing ingredients. They were added at nearly every stage of the process, from mashing to boiling and fermentation, to draw out their aroma. The beer is listed at 5.5% ABV and 23 IBU. The result should be a saison with a bright plum character and a crisp, light finish.

TIELS Brewing operates in Mishima on the banks of the Genbe River, alongside its taproom, TIELS TEA & TAPS. The brewery often works with local and seasonal ingredients, and plum saison has become one of its recurring warm-weather releases. This year’s batch will also be poured at the brewery’s 4th anniversary event on June 26, alongside last year’s version for a side-by-side comparison.
