A new beer rooted in local history

FIVE TREES Gakugei Daigaku is a brewery in Chuo-cho, Meguro, Tokyo. In its latest post, the brewery introduced a new release called Himonya Ale. The concept brings together two references: Himonya’s historical place name and the stone used to preserve important stories for future generations. The result is a beer that ties local memory to the brewery’s lineup.

Brewed as an 8% W-IPA

Himonya Ale is described as an 8% W-IPA. Columbus and Mosaic hops are used generously, giving the beer a spicy, tropical aroma and a clear bitterness. The brewery also notes that the beer changes its character as the temperature shifts, so it is the kind of pint that rewards slow drinking rather than a quick sip.

A beer that fits the neighborhood

FIVE TREES has long centered its identity on house-brewed beer and a close connection to the Gakugei Daigaku neighborhood. Naming beers after local places and their stories gives the brewery’s lineup a strong sense of place. In a residential part of Tokyo, that makes the taproom feel like an everyday spot where neighborhood history and craft beer meet in the same glass.
