Holiday Opening and Tap Update
Hinomoto Brewing & Beer Stand in Honkomagome, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. Although the shop is normally closed on Wednesdays, it will open for the holiday. In a post, it announced, "The taproom is open," and as usual the venue will run with beer at the center. The food is basically kaki-peanuts and dagashi, making it clear that this is a place to go for serious drinking.
The taps for the day span a wide range of flavors, from light beers with clear hop character to beers that put yeast character front and center, plus collaborative black and white sheep brews. Alongside pale styles such as Kohatu Pale Ale, Pee-Pee-Pee Kveik Pale Ale, Ryusui Soso, and Yunosu Saison, there are also Komagome Brown, Komagome Best Bitter, and Kurotobi #4.
What stands out in the post is the pair of Black IPA a.k.a. Black Sheep Ale and Belgian Hazy IPA a.k.a. White Sheep Ale. Both are labeled as collaborations with Sanriku Beer, layering the presence of a joint brew on top of Hinomoto Brewing's own house-brewing focus. For a holiday in Komagome, if you want to follow each beer's individual character rather than go for a flashy meal, this is a lineup worth choosing.
Taps for the Day
- Kohatu Pale Ale / NZ Pale Ale
- Pee-Pee-Pee Kveik Pale Ale / Norwegian Farmhouse Ale
- Ryusui Soso / Italian Pilsner
- Yunosu Saison / Yuzu Sour Saison
- Black IPA a.k.a. Black Sheep Ale / Hinomoto Brewing / Sanriku Beer
- Komagome Brown / Brown Saison

It was also announced that the brewery will have a booth at the Nezu Shrine Azalea Festival, making this a holiday where activity inside and outside the shop overlap. Even so, the taproom itself remains a beer-first operation. For a day when you want to slowly enjoy Japanese craft beer in Komagome, this is one place worth putting on the list.
