On an Instagram post dated March 24, 2026, North Island Beer Ebetsu Brewery said, “Thank you for waiting so long!” and announced that it would release “Buntan White & Lager” this weekend, on March 27.

According to the post, this beer is a popular seasonal item made with buntan from Tosa City, Kochi Prefecture, a sister city of Ebetsu City. This time, it will be rolled out as a “double release,” and a release event is also planned at the directly operated Beer Bar North Island (Chuo Ward, Sapporo).

On the day of the event, a brewer from the brewery will visit the shop, and this time Brewer Jiro will be on hand to serve customers. In addition, there will be a rock-paper-scissors tournament around 8:00 p.m., with bottled beer up for grabs. The post says the odds of winning will be “double” to match the double release.

North Island Beer is based in Ebetsu, Hokkaido, and its official website describes the brewery as promoting “Beer is Art,” while continuously brewing its five standard beers along with limited and seasonal releases. One of the company’s hallmarks is making beers that make use of local ingredients, and this buntan-based release seems to embody that approach.

As the season shifts into spring, how will it express the character of this citrus fruit? Whether you prefer the classics or seasonal limited editions, the lineup on March 27 looks like one to check out.
