Brasserie a Route, located in Suido-suji Shopping Street in Nada Ward, Kobe, has reached its first anniversary. The shop, which opened on May 30, 2025, is a craft beer bar with a brewery on the first floor and dining space on the second, and it has continued operating as a business rooted in the local shopping street.

A major feature of the shop is that it uses groundwater from Mount Maya for brewing. By turning the water of Kobe's Nada district into part of its identity, it presents itself as a beer with a strong sense of place. Owner Sohei Hashimoto came into the craft beer world after working for a railway company, and he also spent a year training at a brewery in Tsurui Village, Hokkaido.

The beers on offer include three original varieties plus three guest beers from domestic breweries. Because the lineup changes roughly every one to ten days, being able to encounter a different flavor each time you visit is another appeal. Previously, a “Nada Central Market 100th Anniversary Beer (IPA)” was also released, introduced as a glass with a striking floral hop aroma and a crisp bitterness.

On the food side, in addition to organic smoked cheese and deli items sourced from the market, the shop also allows customers to bring in “prepared foods” bought in the shopping streets and markets around Suido-suji. Rather than enjoying beer on its own, the setup makes it possible to pair it with deli dishes found around town, and that is part of this shop's unique appeal. With its first anniversary, Brasserie a Route seems poised to become even more firmly established as a place connecting Kobe's market culture and craft beer.
