"Flying Gecko" Tapped at Yamorido in Kyoto's Fushimi, Serving a New Amber Ale
At the brewpub Yamorido in Kyoto's Fushimi, a new house beer, "Flying Gecko (Amber Ale)," has been released. The post describes it as IBU 31 and ABV 5.5%, with a combination of citrus notes from New Zealand hops and caramel-like malt character, while also sharing the latest tap list of six house beers and two guest beers.
The brewpub Yamorido, located in Nakabiyakakecho, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, announced the release of a new beer in an Instagram post titled "/////// Amber Ale <Flying Gecko> Release! ///////..."
The new beer introduced this time is the house beer <Flying Gecko>. The post lists the specs as Beer style: Amber Ale / IBU: 31 / ABV: 5.5%. The yeast used is US-05, and the hops are Motueka, Mosaic, Simcoe, Idaho 7, and Centennial. In the description, the highlights are described as "lightness," "gentle citrus notes," and a finish reminiscent of caramel and lightly roasted coffee.
The same post also announced the tap status for the day, with "6 house beers" on offer. The lineup is as follows.
- Chakabuki (Japanese Saison)
- Piacere! (Italian Pilsner)
- Dayeasy (New Zealand-Style Pale Ale)
- Big Storm Mom (Belgian IPA)
- Ushi Goroshi (American IPA)
- Flying Gecko (Amber Ale)
In addition, the guest taps featured Pivo (Firestone Walker) and THE PEACHY (FARM&CIDERYKANESHIGE).
Yamorido is known for its space built around a traditional townhouse that blends naturally into the streetscape of Fushimi, along with an on-site brewing system. Centered on locally brewed house beers, it also mixes in guest beers and ciders to create a broad tasting range.
This post also marked the transition from the previous release, <Bonno>, to a new beer, updating the taps for the changing season. For anyone looking to enjoy the malt character of an amber ale, and especially for those who usually drink pale ales, this looks like a beer that will let them check the balance between bright hops and roasted nuance.
