Open from 3 to 10 p.m. on Sat 5/30

The brewpub Hinomoto Brewing & Beer Stand, located in Honkomagome, Tokyo, operates on weekdays from 5-11 p.m., weekends and holidays from 3-10 p.m., and is closed on Wednesdays. With a layout centered on counter seating and standing room, it is a place well suited for dropping in casually for a beer. During regular service, it serves only Japanese craft beer, and has 10 draft taps on offer.

Tap list for the day

The post first introduces the pale ale "Pepepe," brewed with yeast rooted in Norwegian farmhouse ales. Style: Norwegian Farmhouse Pale Ale; ABV 4.5%; IBU 36.5. Made with Amarillo, Citra, HBC568, and Cascade, it finishes with orange-like aromas layered with coriander-like nuances, a touch of wildness, and a subtle acidity.

The other taps include "Sunny Side Mashup IPA," a Belgian IPA; "Shinmei Kölsch," a Kölsch Style Ale; "Kurotobi Imperial," an Imperial Belgian stout; "Saburo Hazy," a Hazy IPA; "White Sheep Ale #4," a Belgian Hazy IPA; "Sauvin Belgo," an American Belgo Style Ale; "Amber Lager," a Dry Hopped Amber Lager; "Yunosu Saison," a Sour Saison made with yuzu; and "Komagome EX Bitter," an ESB.

A shop with a wide drinking range

The highlight of the day is the clear spread of styles, from Belgian-influenced beers and lagers to Hazy, sour, and bitter beers. From lighter options like "Shinmei Kölsch" and "Amber Lager" to more distinctive pours like "Kurotobi Imperial" and "Yunosu Saison," there is enjoyment in tracing the differences in flavor as you drink.

The food menu during regular service is light, with items such as Kaki-Pi and dagashi sweets. Rather than coming for a full meal, this is an easy place to enjoy the differences in aroma, bitterness, and acidity from the beer itself. It is a good fit for a day in the Komagome area when you want to slowly drink house-brewed beer whose maker's intention is easy to see.
