TIELS Brewing in Mishima, Shizuoka, announced on June 25 that its annual plum saison has been completed. This year’s beer once again uses plums from Nyaa Farm in Shuzenji, Izu.

The brewery said plum supply was tight this year after a severe winter cold spell affected harvests across many areas. Nyaa Farm was no exception, but it managed to secure just enough fruit for TIELS’ saison. The brewery expressed its thanks to the farm for making the release possible.

TIELS Brewing operates a small-scale brewhouse with 250-liter brews and focuses on beers that highlight fruits and agricultural products from the Izu area. Its attached taproom, TIELS Tea & Taps, serves fresh beer on site in central Mishima.

For this plum saison, the fruit was washed by hand, destemmed, and added at multiple stages of the process, including the mash, the boil, and the tank. According to the brewery, the result is another strong batch with a vivid plum aroma.

The beer will be poured at TIELS’ fourth-anniversary event on June 26, alongside a one-keg-only serving of last year’s plum saison. For drinkers who follow the brewery year after year, it will be a rare chance to compare two vintages side by side.
