Mushimahama Brewery releases GOD ISLAND collaboration beer with Kasaoka-grown barley
Mushimahama Brewery in the Kasaoka Islands of Okayama introduced GOD ISLAND, a collaboration beer brewed with barley grown by Bokke Machi Kaigi. The release is available as both draft and bottled beer.
Mushimahama Brewery is a small craft brewery on Mushima, an island in the Kasaoka Islands of Okayama. The brewery says it makes beer on a tiny island with a population of around 40, and its core lineup includes Mugi no Hajimari, Drum Can Meeting, and Oyster Stout.
The new beer highlighted on Instagram is a collaboration with Bokke Machi Kaigi, a youth-led community project in Kasaoka. According to the post, GOD ISLAND follows last year’s first unveiling and is brewed again with barley grown by Bokke Machi Kaigi on Kasaoka’s Kaminoshima, from pesticide-free soil preparation onward. The recipe combines that local barley with existing malt, and the brewery says it eventually hopes to make all of its base malt from Kasaoka-grown grain.
The beer is described as a lager-based, easy-drinking release with a gentle hop aroma and the natural sweetness of grain. It is positioned as a food-friendly beer that works with many dishes and suits hot summer nights. This time, bottled beer will also be sold in addition to draft, and the brewery notes that it is currently only available at the event venue. The label design also uses ideas from Bokke Machi Kaigi, making the project a local collaboration that connects agriculture, community design, and island brewing in one beer.
