New blueberry ale announced

Monterey Brewing in Shiojiri, Nagano, has introduced a new beer called Blueberry Ale on Instagram. According to the post, the brewery used freshly harvested blueberries from Yamagata Village in Shinshu and brewed them into a beer with a vivid ruby color, a bright berry aroma, and a clean, refreshing acidity.

Yamagata Village is one of Nagano Prefecture’s notable blueberry-growing areas. Located at roughly 700 meters above sea level, the cool climate and sharp day-night temperature swings help produce large berries with a rich, concentrated flavor. The new ale appears to translate that local character directly into the glass.

Monterey Brewing positions itself as a brewery that uses local ingredients and works with the surrounding community in its hometown of Shiojiri. Its official site highlights a product lineup built around regional ingredients, including a fruit ale made with Shinshu apples, a Belgian-style beer with sansho and citrus, and an IPA brewed with beetroot. The brewery’s approach is clear: let local produce shape the flavor of each beer.

This blueberry ale follows that same path. Rather than leaning on heavy sweetness, it focuses on fruit expression and balance, offering another example of how local agriculture can define a craft beer’s identity.
