Third Entry in the Limited Series "Canned Island"
Teshima Factory, located on Teshima in Tonosho Town, Shodoshima District, Kagawa Prefecture, has announced "Interlude," the third release in its limited craft beer series "Canned Island." In addition to its craft brewery, Teshima Factory operates as a cafe and dining hall with an attached food lab that processes ingredients from Teshima, and it also serves morning and lunch menus using island produce.
This new "Interlude" is a beer based on the saison style, traditionally brewed during the agricultural off-season. It combines malts gradually colored through roasting with wheat and rye to create an amber-toned brown beer. It also uses mix fermentation, in which multiple yeasts are employed during fermentation, resulting in a design that layers malt aroma, hop brightness, and yeast-driven character.
Between Simplicity and Complexity
According to the brewery, the beer brings together the rich aroma of malt, the bright character of hops that do not overpower, and the unobtrusive personality of the yeast. While it may seem complex at first, it ultimately settles into what they describe as a "plain, rustic flavor." As the name Interlude suggests, the release timing follows the style's origins: brewed during the farming off-season and enjoyed during the busy farming season.
The label is also a new illustration by artist Lee Izumida. It reinforces the series' world not only through flavor, but also visually. True to Teshima Factory's approach of staying close to Teshima's local climate and food culture, this is a beer worth watching for as something to enjoy on the island.
