Announcement of the Gold Award

Sandy Brewery used its official Instagram to share that its original beer, "Kawama Ale," had won a gold award. Even from the post title, the joy over the win comes through clearly.

A Pint Born in Kawamae Town

Sandy Brewery is a craft beer brewery in Shimookurui, Kawamae Town, Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. It is introduced as the only craft beer brewery in Hamadori, and it continues to make beer that draws on the area's nature and local character.

The brewery is run by Daisuke Mito, who set up the brewery after serving with the Kawamae Town Regional Revitalization Cooperation Team. Mito discovered homebrewed beer in Australia, gained experience in Germany and Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, and has also worked on growing barley and hops in Kawamae Town. From the start, he has consistently aimed to share the appeal of the region with the outside world through craft beer.

The Story of Kawama Ale

"Kawama Ale" is a name that combines Kawamae, where the brewery is located, ale, the beer style, and also the idea of cheering on the Kawamae area. It drew support from the concept stage onward, and regular sales began at restaurants in the city in 2025. This gold award can be seen as recognition of those accumulated efforts in a tangible form.

A beer born in the community being recognized externally through an award is a major milestone for Sandy Brewery. It will be interesting to see how Kawama Ale, nurtured against the backdrop of Kawamae Town's landscape and climate, spreads from here.
