OHLOY STORE, a brewpub located in Uchimach, Takamatsu, is serving “Militia,” a new beer from OHLOY BREWING. The beer was created in collaboration with TANGIERS CAFE, a lemonade specialty shop in Marugame, Kagawa.

Militia is a Lemonade Sour Ale with an ABV of 5.5%. The base wort was kept deliberately simple so that the lemonade character would remain at the center of the beer. OHLOY BREWING added 20 kilograms of TANGIERS CAFE’s lemonade syrup before fermenting the beer with Philly Sour yeast, which contributes acidity while helping ferment out the available sugars.

The finished beer combines a firm, refreshing tartness with the flavor of lemonade. Its restrained sweetness and bright citrus character make it an approachable choice for drinkers looking for a refreshing sour beer rather than a strongly bitter ale.

The collaboration also has a close connection to OHLOY STORE. TANGIERS CAFE’s lemonade syrup has been served at the brewpub since its early days, making Militia a flagship-style expression of the relationship between the two local businesses. The label features TANGIERS CAFE’s camouflage pattern, which also inspired the name “Militia.”

OHLOY STORE offers a chance to enjoy OHLOY BREWING’s beers in the center of Takamatsu. For visitors exploring the city, Militia provides a glass-by-glass way to experience the connection between brewers in Takamatsu and makers in Marugame, with lemonade flavor and a clean sour finish leading the way.
