HOP MAN, a beer pub in Chigasaki, announced a new guest-beer tap in an Instagram post on July 24. The beer now on tap is `NEW Kumaoni IPA` from Noboribetsu Ji Beer Onidensetsu. It is a Hazy IPA with 7.5% ABV and 50 IBU, and the venue describes it as a beer made for the summer season.
The beer has an unusual backstory. In early June, a bear was reported near a factory in foggy Noboribetsu, and the brewery says this batch was brewed while hoping the bear would avoid harm. The hop bill centers on Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra, and YCH303, with Nectaron and Theirs added as well. The aroma is described as dank, with tropical citrus layered on top, giving the beer a fresh and juicy impression.
The finish is a little drier than the brewery’s previous `Maki` beer, making it lighter overall while still keeping the firm bitterness associated with Onidensetsu. In other words, it is not a hazy that leans only on softness; it has enough structure to stay interesting as you drink.
HOP MAN sits on the second floor of Sunrize Shonan in Jukkenzaka, Chigasaki City, Kanagawa. It is the kind of beer pub where rotating guest taps are part of the appeal, so checking what is newly tapped is part of the experience. This release fits that role well: a timely Hazy IPA with a clear flavor profile and a summer-friendly feel.
