Motoyamachō Brewery Begins Serving New Sake-Lees Ale “Amamoyoi”
Motoyamachō Brewery in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, has begun serving its experimental sake-lees ale “Amamoyoi” at its beer stand, brewed with new sake lees from Isaka Shuzo. It is said to be a beer shaped by experience gained during training at Tochigi Microbrewery.
Motoyamachō Brewery, located in Motoyamachō, Mito City, has finished a new beer using sake lees. In a post, it was revealed that the sake-lees beer they had been planning since around the beginning of last autumn has now been tapped at the beer stand under the name “Amamoyoi.”
The trigger was asking the sake brewery Isaka Shuzo, in Satomi, Hitachiota City, for the sake lees from its freshly brewed new sake. In addition, recalling the experience of brewing a sake-lees beer together during training at Tochigi Microbrewery, they traveled to Utsunomiya once again to check things firsthand and used that experience to guide this batch. It is a beer born from the overlap of ties with a local brewery and lessons learned elsewhere.
In a post from Motoyamachō Brewery, this beer was described as “Motoyamachō’s trial-and-error sake-lees ale,” along with the comment, “I can’t explain it well... but it feels like a beer with a certain charm.” Rather than defining the aroma and flavor in detail, the introduction conveys above all that the brewer themselves feels a real sense of promise.
Serving began at the Motoyamachō Beer Stand from this weekend, and visitors are encouraged to try it if they get the chance. As a limited new release from Motoyamachō Brewery, where local sake and memories of learning come together, it seems worth checking out at the beer stand.
