Rusty Nest Brewery in Oamishirasato, Chiba, will hold a talk session during Dream & Hope presents OKTOBERFEST 2026 on Saturday, October 3.
Beginning at 1:35 p.m., the session will be titled “Can One Glass of Beer Change a Town?—Thinking About the Future of Universities, the Sea, and the Community Through ‘Kibo no Minato.’” The speakers will be Professor Manabu Hagihara of the Graduate School of Science at Chiba University and Oki of Rusty Nest Brewery and Dream & Hope.
The discussion will focus on “Kibo no Minato,” a beer jointly brewed by Chiba University CURAFT and Rusty Nest Brewery. Topics will include university-community connections, the interactions created through craft beer, and the future of the Kujukuri area. Rather than a one-way lecture, the 45-minute program will include a three-choice quiz inviting audience participation. Admission to the talk session is free.
Rusty Nest Brewery is located near Shirako Beach in Oamishirasato, in a former seafood-processing facility that has been repurposed as a community space. The project began in 2023 and has developed into a brewery and the Rusty Cafe & Bar. Its broader vision is to connect the area’s sea, nature, food, and people through an open gathering place and locally made beer.
Free shuttle buses will operate on the event day. Departures from Oami Station to the venue are scheduled for 10:05 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:50 p.m., 2:20 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. Additional services will connect Ducale Honkan and the venue. The final departures are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. to Ducale Honkan and 7:20 p.m. to Oami Station.
The festival runs from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. It offers an opportunity to enjoy local craft beer while considering the future of universities, communities, and the Kujukuri coast.
