The latest in the "Magic Spell" series, "Shichinohe," arrives at Aomori Brew Pub
A guest beer from Hirosaki has arrived at the Aomori Brew Pub in Aomori City: "Shichinohe," the latest entry in the "Magic Spell" series. Created in collaboration with Chihiro Ishizuka, the IPA offers both a rich malt presence and tropical aromatics.
The latest release in the "Magic Spell" series, "Shichinohe," has appeared at Aomori Brew Pub in Aomori City’s Yasukata district. In an Instagram post, it was introduced as a new beer sent from Hirosaki, and presented as a pint in the continuing series collaborating with Chihiro Ishizuka, the creator of "Flying Witch".
This time, "Shichinohe" is an IPA. In addition to base malt, it uses Swaen malt and a small amount of amber malt, giving it a design with a gently biscuit-like malt character. The hops are centered on American varieties, and by layering in Waimea Hop Kief as well, it is characterized by tropical fruit nuances. Built around a firm bitterness, the malt presence brings balance to the whole, resulting in a satisfying IPA with plenty of depth.
Aomori Brew Pub is a brewpub within walking distance of Aomori Station. Inside the Garesu Building on the second floor, you can enjoy freshly brewed craft beer while watching the brewing equipment. According to the article, it uses a card-based system that charges by the amount poured from each tap, making it easy to sample small servings and compare styles to find what you like. In addition to house-brewed beers made with ingredients associated with Aomori, you can also encounter guest beers like this one, making it a good stop for a drink while traveling or for trying local favorites.
Given the background of the collaboration, "Shichinohe" seems appealing not just as a new release, but as a pint that connects Aomori’s landscape with its story. At this station-area brewpub, I’d like to see how the malt richness and hop aroma come together.
