A limited pilsner led by New Zealand hops

Nagisa Beer, a brewery in Shirahama, Wakayama, has launched `Southern Pils`, a limited NZ-style pilsner. The company posted the release date as June 26 on its official site. At 5.5% ABV, the beer is positioned around a clear, clean finish and a fragrant hop profile.

Riwaka, Motueka, and Nelson Sauvin

The beer is built on three New Zealand hop components: `Riwaka Hop Kief`, `Motueka`, and `Nelson Sauvin`. According to the brewery, the base is a traditional European pilsner, layered with citrus, tropical fruit, passion fruit, and lime-like aromas that are characteristic of NZ hops. For this batch, the hop character leans toward pink grapefruit, guava, and papaya.

A beer designed for seafood and summer drinking

Nagisa Beer is known for brewing in Shirahama and for its core lineup that includes Pale Ale and American Wheat. Southern Pils fits neatly into that range as a lighter, food-friendly beer. The brewery suggests pairings such as fish and chips, or seafood dishes with lemon and herbs.

The label also stands out: rather than Shirahama’s peninsula motif, it features a map of New Zealand and the southern latitude where the hops were harvested. It is a limited pilsner that reflects not only flavor, but also respect for the origin of its ingredients.
