Two New Taps

`vivo! BEER+DININGBAR`, located underground near Ikebukuro East Exit, is a beer pub with 20 taps of draft beer. Its calm atmosphere makes it a place where you can compare craft beers across a wide range of styles.

In the April 12 in-house news, `Inkhorn Brewing`'s `Kahu` and `Kanpai! Brewing`'s `Kichijozaka IPA Classic` were newly tapped. `Kahu` is a hazy double IPA that balances sweet fruitiness reminiscent of pineapple and orange with just the right amount of dank, grassy character and bitterness. While it has the juiciness typical of a hazy beer, it stays crisp on the palate and keeps the hop character clearly defined.

Meanwhile, `Kichijozaka IPA Classic` is an American IPA that is dry and sharp while still offering substantial body. If you drink it after a fruit-forward beer like `Kahu`, its bitterness and clean finish will likely stand out even more clearly. With two beers of very different personalities on tap at the same time, the fun of side-by-side tasting only grows.

On the food side, the lineup includes easy beer pairings such as fish and chips with house-made tartar sauce, crispy-crust pizza, a platter of Zaou sausages, and natto omelet rice. Fried foods and pizza should pair well with `Kahu`, which puts hop aroma at the center, while `Kichijozaka IPA Classic` seems like it would also go well with food-forward dishes such as sausages or omelet rice.

With its 20-tap setup and broad range of styles, `vivo! BEER+DININGBAR` is a reliable spot when you're looking for a new guest beer in Ikebukuro. On a day that feels warm for early spring, it seems like a good idea to start with `Kahu` and enjoy the density of the hops, then move on to another tap afterward.
