The Brewpub "And Beer" in Koenji, Tokyo, is operating on April 16 while holding a Kesennuma oyster fair. It is open all day from 11:30 to 22:00, with lunch from 11:30 to 15:00 (L.O. 14:30), and happy hour from 15:00 to 18:00. In addition to in-house service, beer can be taken out in bottles, PET bottles, plastic cups, and growlers from 9:30 to 22:00.
Featured Beer
The highlight this time is the house-brewed "Oyster Stout." At 5.3% ABV, it is made with plenty of oysters from Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. Built around pilsner malt and layered with wheat malt and chocolate malt, it has been crafted into a rich, full-bodied beer that blends oyster umami with malt aroma. This time, the oysters in the shell were simmered thoroughly for 60 minutes, adding even more depth to the aroma.
Food Pairings
On the food side, the menu includes oyster biryani made with oysters from Yamayo Suisan in Oshima, Kesennuma; Kerala oyster curry; and combo plates with ume-vinegar pork vindaloo. Centering on spice dishes and oyster dishes, the lineup is designed so the stout can be paired with the food, a pleasure that is distinctly brewpub. It is a good choice for a day when you want to linger in Koenji and enjoy a drink slowly from the first glass, together with a meal.
