Spicy Brothers Releases “Tsur i,” a Fishing-Inspired Saison
Murakami-based Spicy Brothers has released “Tsuri,” a saison inspired by the quiet anticipation and excitement of fishing. Built with Motueka, Riwaka, and Nelson Sauvin hops and Belle Saison yeast, the beer brings citrus, white-grape, and gentle spice notes together in a dry, sparkling finish.
Spicy Brothers, a craft brewery based in Murakami, Niigata, has released “Tsuri,” a new saison inspired by the experience of fishing. The beer is designed to capture both the stillness of waiting by the water and the rush of feeling a fish strike.
The recipe uses New Zealand hops including Motueka, Riwaka, and Nelson Sauvin. Motueka contributes lime-like aromatics, while Riwaka adds vivid citrus character. Nelson Sauvin brings impressions of white grape and gooseberry. These hop notes are rounded out by the gentle spice of Belle Saison yeast.
“Tsuri” has an ABV of 7% and an IBU of 30. Its dry palate and lively carbonation are intended to evoke the deep breath taken after a day on the water. Niigata-based professional angler Masakazu Homma supervised the beer, while Chase After and Michidaze contributed to the label design.
Spicy Brothers was established in 2025 as Murakami’s first microbrewery and began selling its original beers in 2026. The brewery’s concept is to create beers that put the spotlight on hobbies and the time spent enjoying them. Previous releases have explored themes such as camping and backcountry activities.
The brewery also operates an adjoining taproom serving freshly made beer. For anglers, “Tsuri” offers a way to revisit the atmosphere of a day outdoors; for other drinkers, it provides a crisp saison framed by images of rivers, coastlines, and the anticipation of the next cast.
