This week’s Pick up Brewery

Kakuuchi Asakura’s latest post highlights FLORA FARMENTATION from Shiga as the week’s Pick up Brewery. The post says the brewery’s beers are presented with product notes on postcard-style cards, along with brief character introductions. The lineup includes Ogopogo (Dank Pale Ale, ABV 5.5%), Nekter (Fruits Sour Ale, ABV 5.0%), Cascara (Dunkel w/Coffee Cherry, ABV 5.0%), and Apollo (Hoppy Lager, ABV 5.5%).

Five beers on tap

The tap list also shows five draft beers spanning a wide range of styles. Confirmed entries are Bighand Bros. Beer “Limestone Lime curd Sour”, Yellow Beer Works “raiNing 僕のパンダのSesIPA”, Inkhorn Brewing “Flocking Italian Pilsner”, CAMADO BREWERY “Anky Lager”, and GARCIA BREWING “SOL NACIENTE Hazy IPA”. Even at a glance, the selection covers sour, IPA, Italian pilsner, and lager, making it an easy place to compare styles. Growler fills are available for customers who bring their own containers.

A machiya setting in Kyoto

Kakuuchi Asakura is a beer pub in Kyoto’s Kamigyo Ward, housed in a renovated machiya townhouse. The shop sits within walking distance of Nijo Castle and Kyoto Gyoen, in the Nishijin area, and offers a relaxed setting for craft beer and sake. The post notes the summer heat but says the shop is keeping the air conditioning strong for guests. For beer drinkers, it is the kind of place where the draft list and the atmosphere work together.
