Streetlight Brewing in Sapporo taps new American Light Lager, "A.L.L. I Need"
Streetlight Brewing in Sapporo has unveiled its new American Light Lager, "A.L.L. I Need." Finished at a brisk 3.5% ABV and single-hopped with Liberty, it is a beer that puts crisp lager character front and center.
Streetlight Brewing, located at 10-19 Nishi, Kita 10-jo, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, introduced A.L.L. I Need. The style is American Light Lager, and the ABV is 3.5%. As the name suggests, it is a new release built around lightness and drinkability.
According to the brewery, this style belongs to the "best-selling" lineage represented by Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Coors Light, and is characterized by a clean finish and a flavor with little in the way of rough edges. Streetlight Brewing says this is its first attempt at the American Light Lager style.
The hops were single-used Liberty, an American variety. By narrowing the recipe to one hop known for its herbal, floral aroma, the brewery carefully shapes the delicate outline of the lager. Rather than pushing strong IPA-like aromatics to the forefront, the design focuses on how to bring out lightness and refreshment.
In the context of craft beer, American Pale Ale and American IPA have driven the movement, but in recent years there has also been a return of attention to light lagers. Streetlight Brewing's A.L.L. I Need is worth noting as one beer showing that trend from Sapporo. It is suited to people looking for a not-too-heavy pint, or for those who want to try a direction different from their usual IPA.
