RIKRI BREWING in Takaban, Meguro has released BARRICADE, a 2x Mash DDH Hazy IPA that is being sold on draft and in cans. The beer was brewed to mark BEER OLYN's fourth anniversary and sits at 7.5% ABV.
The recipe skips wheat entirely and uses only oat malt and flaked oats in a double-mash build. Hops are Citra, Riwaka, and Kohia Nelson, with Kohia Nelson used for the first time. The aim is a hazy IPA with a fuller texture and a clear hop profile.
In the glass, the beer is built around bright passion fruit character, with Sauvignon Blanc-like aromatics, classic NZ green notes, and stone-fruit nuance layered on top. It is sweet on the nose and silky on the palate, but the finish stays light enough to keep drinking. For a brewery that focuses on balance and drinkability, BARRICADE is a good snapshot of its current direction.
