A set built around two contrasting beers

Horsehead Labs will release a special set containing Guryubai Sake Lees IPA and Nayuta 10^60, a beer from its Batou series. The brewery announced on Instagram that sales will begin at 8:10 p.m. through its official online store.

Guryubai Sake Lees IPA is brewed with sake lees from Sanwa Shuzo’s Guryubai sake. The product information lists malt, sake lees, oats, strawberry juice, lactose, hops, yeast and other ingredients, with an alcohol content of 6.0%. Its profile combines the aroma and umami of sake lees with floral hop notes and a fresh strawberry character. Horsehead Labs offers both a standard version and a richer, hazier version drawn from the bottom layer of the tank.

Nayuta 10^60 takes a very different direction. Listed as a 7.0% DDH IPA, it uses 100% Maris Otter malt and four hop varieties, including Centennial grown in the brewery’s own field. The hops are added in four separate stages, aiming for a complex aroma that moves from citrus top notes into a fuller bouquet, supported by assertive bitterness. The brewery suggests pairing it with Asian curry, Sichuan mapo tofu and spicy snacks.

An experimental brewery in Kanbara

Horsehead Labs is based in Kanbara, Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City. The brewery describes itself as an experimental group making a range of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, drawing on the water and coastal environment at the foot of Mount Fuji.

This set brings together two different approaches: one beer built around sake lees and strawberry, and another that places layered hop character at the center. For fans planning an autumn tasting, it offers an opportunity to compare the ingredients and brewing ideas behind each bottle. Availability and sales conditions should be checked through the official online store.
